Originally, this common domestic bird was bred for meat, eggs, feathers and games. It is thought that domesticated birds of this type may have been kept in India as long ago as 3,200 B.C. There are historical records that indicate the fact of keeping these birds in China and Egypt as early as 1,400 B.C.

Most domestic birds of this type evolved from the Red Jungle Fowl. They have two main distinctions, such as a comb and two wattles.
